What is PAYE/APIT Tax?

PAYE (Pay-As-You-Earn) tax, also known as APIT (Advance Personal Income Tax), is the monthly income tax deducted from employees’ salaries by their employers. It’s based on a progressive income structure, meaning the more you earn, the higher your rate — but only on the income within each bracket.

Who is this tool for?

According to the official APIT Tax Table No. 01, effective from April 1, 2025, this tax system applies to:

  • All resident employees
  • All non-resident Sri Lankan citizens with one declared primary employment

Employers are required to deduct the tax each month, regardless of employee consent.
